Day 23 May 29, 2011 Just outside Miramichi 15km
29 May
It worked, I got up early.
The day began at 5:30 after almost all my alarm clocks went off. I even had time for pancakes and eggs before setting off for my run. Everything was going really well, the weather was great, the road wasn’t busy and I felt good. But then my hamstring started to hurt…. a lot. By 15km I could barely walk and the limp I had adopted to compensate was starting to hurt my right knee. I stopped for about 20 mins and tried to stretch it out, but I could only manage another 1 km before I had to stop. Disaster. I got back into the RV and tried to figure out what to do. I had only managed 30km yesterday and if I had to stop today at 15km it would put me 75km behind. I really didn’t have much of a choice though and after talking it over with Mike we decided to drive into Fredericton to see if I could find physio.
The drive to Fredericton took a little over 2 hours and I spent most of that time ruminating over not being able to run. To make matters worse, when we arrived in Fredericton we realized it was Sunday and nowhere was open. I even tried a number of hotels to see if I could at least get a massage for my leg but I had no luck. So instead we spent the day doing little jobs. We picked up groceries from Walmart, mobile Internet and batteries from the Source and I got a suitcase from Bentley to take to Yale with me for my reunion. The woman who sold me the bag asked me what the bag was for and I told her I was going back to my 10-year college reunion. She asked me where I went to college, I told her Yale, and she laughed because she didn’t believe me. When she realized I wasn’t kidding she turned bright red and gave me 15% off the bag for her comment! Awesome!
Seeing as we had all this free time for the first time in a while we decided to catch a film at the cinema. There weren’t many options so we ended up seeing Thor in 3D. It was way better than I expected. Way better. You should all go see it.
Tomorrow is my scheduled day off in Fredericton so I’ll have a little more time to rest my hamstring and hopefully I can find some physio.
We just got kicked out of our parking spot. Looks like not every Walmart allows overnight parking.
Next stop…. Home Depot.
