Day 31 June 6, 2011 Plaster Rock to Grand Falls NB 30km

6 Jun

The drive back to Plaster Rock from Fredericton took about 2.5 hours. On the drive back we met Ryo, a guy from Japan who was cycling across Canada to say thank you to Canada for all the help during their recent earthquake. We took some photos and exchanged cards and Majid told him to call him when he arrived in Vancouver so he could take him out for dinner.

As soon as we got back to Plaster Rock we met Kris, who is originally from Ohio but who now lives here where his wife is from. We asked him what it was like living in such a small town. He said he liked it but that he was the probably the only Jewish guy for a hundred miles!

After a quick lunch in our old campground with the leech-infested lake we drove the 10km outside of town and I started running again. It felt a little weird running again after 3 days off, but it didn’t take long to get back into a rhythm.

After 10km I had reached Plaster Rock, and by 30km I was just outside of the town of Grand Falls NB. My hamstring felt good, my feet felt good, and besides not putting enough sunscreen on and probably burning my nose, things went really smoothly.

We again spent the night in the leech-infested campground, and Majid cooked us steaks on an outside fire pit. Dinner was delicious and I had 4 fudgecicles for dessert.  We then stayed up to watch the Canucks play. Too bad they got dominated/embarrassed/crushed! At least it meant that I didn’t have to watch the whole game and was able to get to sleep early. It’s been a while since I’ve shaved now, so I’ve decided to grow a playoff beard, albeit a bit late. It’s blonde so it’s hard to see unless you’re up close but it’s the thought that counts.

Tomorrow will be one month since I started and I’ll try again for 60km and see what happens
