Day 5 – Travel to Nova Scotia
11 May
The day began a lot earlier than most of our others. A 6:15am flight meant getting up at un ungodly hour starting with a 4. The flight from St John's to Sydney NS took us through Halifax and we managed to survive despite the tiny plane and windy turbulence! Our RV has yet to arrive and so we are again planning on running with a rental car.
Once in Sydney we were lucky enough to get complementary rooms at the Days Inn thanks to Lawrence. My first day off since the start of this run felt great and allowed us to collect a number of items that had been missing or dwindling including carbohydrate gel and bananas. I had hoped to be able to get another pair of shoes, but haven't been able to find anywhere that sells Mizuno shoes. I also had a radio interview with Greg MacLean at one of the local radio stations, which he said would play repeatedly the following day.
The great thing about being at the Days Inn was the hot tub, which made my legs feel great! After a huge pasta dinner I was ready for bed trying to prepare myself for my first 60km day.
Excited/Nervous!
