Day 72 July 17, 2011 Pointe au Baril to Delamere 21km

17 Jul

Heat, Humidity and a cold don’t mix well

After rising with the sun and enjoying our final breakfast at the Grant camp Les and Buzz drove us back to the marina and we were soon heading back to French River to start our day.

I didn’t get to enjoy the day off yesterday, as much I would have liked thanks to a persistent cold. I had hoped that I would feel a lot better today, but I didn’t and by the time I started running at 9am I already felt rotten in addition to the insane heat and humidity.

I didn’t get very far, only 16km before I started to feel really unwell and had to stop. I came into the MCC, changed out of my running clothes, got into bed, and took a two-hour nap. I felt a bit better after waking but still pretty rotten. I really didn’t like the idea of only doing 16km though and so, after about 5 hours of resting I got back out but only managed to do another 5 km before I had to pack it in.

Looking at the forecast it’s calling for mid 30s all week with humidity in the 80s-90s and even a day with a 100% humidity that, I’m pretty sure would mean we would be inside a cloud. My grandfather, Grampy, had suggested yesterday that I should be getting up early and running at first light to avoid the heat and that’s what we are planning to do tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes.

After trying in vain to find a place to dump and fill with water but managing to find a place to fill with gas so we could keep the generator running and therefore the air conditioning on, we parked in a random pullout by the side of the highway.

I was in bed at 8:00pm but didn’t fall asleep until around 10pm despite my best efforts.

I guess we’ll see how it works out tomorrow!
