Day 120 September 3, 2011 Regina to Moose Jaw 62km

12 Sep

Goodbye Daumer, hello Grants

We left Chris at the Hill’s condo as we set out to meet Brett, a friend of my sisters who was going to join us for the day. We started running and were immediately greeted by a strong headwind, the prairies constant companion.

Brett lives in Saskatoon but is from Lloydminster, where his parents have a farm. As soon as I learned this I peppered him with questions about all of the different farm equipment I’ve seen since I started. We also talked about how Lloydminster straddles the Alberta/Saskatchewan border and all the fun you can have with that.

I felt good after our day off and had a faster pace than usual despite the headwind. The road to Moose Jaw was fairly flat all the way until just before I entered the town where the terrain dramatically changed and the road dipped and rose as I passed around. Brett alternated between running with me and hanging out with Mike in the MCC.

As I came to the top of the hill towards the westerly city limit I was met by a number of relatives. They were cousins of my father and have been following along. It was great to meet them and they made very generous donations.

A family friend of ours had arranged for us to stay at the Temple Garden Mineral Spa and to have massages so we were pretty excited when I finished running for the day. We made our way into town and were met at the hotel by two reporters from the local newspapers. The interviews ended just in time for our massages to begin and we spent the next 90 minutes relaxing in the spa. It was the first time Mike has ever had a massage and he was pretty excited about it.

Our day ended with the arrival of my two cousins Jean and Ian Grant, who are joining us for the week.

Tomorrow we’re heading back to Regina to experience the green sea of Rider Nation.
